Weather in Tunisia in May

Is May a good month to visit Tunisia?

To complement the sparkling beaches, May in Tunisia brings to life an abundance of wild flowers in the countryside – bequeathed by the winter rains, which now begin to dissipate and give way to long hours of hot sunshine. The weather in Tunisia in May is mild enough to enjoy all that the Mediterranean resorts have to offer without working up a sweat – sunbathing, poolside cocktails, a round of golf, beach walks, shopping in the bazaars and sight-seeing.

Just a couple of hours’ flying time from Europe, Tunisia is the perfect place to get the jump on summer! Bathed by sea breezes, the coastal resorts are pure pleasure, but it is starting to become a little too hot for desert excursions. A camel trek from your beach resort will give you a taste of Saharan Africa however.

Climate in Tunisia in May

May is full spring in Tunisia, with temperatures more equated to a European summer. In the northern beach resorts expect to be warm and comfortable in an average 24°C (75.2°F) – several days approaching 30°C (86°F) and beyond. The winter rain is becoming a distant memory, and there are sunny skies most of the time, with an average of 10 hours sunshine in each long, bright day. Statistically there is still the chance of an average 23mm of rain through the month, across five wet days, but this is unlikely to mar a holiday in Tunisia in May month.

What to pack for a holiday in Tunisia in May

Bring your swimsuit, and a priority for packing is sun protection. For sightseeing and exploring, go for loose, cool clothing that will provide respectful cover in this Muslim country, but in your holiday resort skimpy tops, shorts and skirts will suffice. Evenings may well be a little cool, as this is still spring, after all, so a cardigan will be useful.
